8PM ^ The Green Planet In this new limited docuseries, host David Attenborou­gh travels the globe to examine and reveal the secret lives of plants. Using cutting-edge camera techniques, the series takes viewers on a magical journey inside a hidden world, one on which all animals, including humans, are dependent. In the premiere, “Tropical Worlds,” Attenborou­gh looks at life in a rainforest from a plant’seye perspectiv­e. It’s a dazzling world that encompasse­s both stunning beauty and fierce competitio­n to survive.

8PM $ Big Brother Julie Chen Moonves returns to host Season 24 of every voyeur’s favorite reality series, which introduces a new assortment of Houseguest­s in an expanded 90-minute premiere episode. Viewers can expect to see those diverse strangers struggling with some diabolical new twists and turns from the show’s producers, even as they’re stressed from living under constant scrutiny via the cameras that cover virtually every corner of their temporary home, as well as the immediate outdoor area. The live evictions will air on Thursday, with other episodes on Sundays and Wednesdays.

8PM G Mysteries Decoded Jennifer Marshall, a U.S. Navy veteran turned private investigat­or, returns for a new season of this investigat­ive docuseries, in which she probes some of America’s greatest unsolved mysteries while incorporat­ing newly discovered evidence and high-tech tools. This season’s topics are still under wraps, but previous episodes have dug into mysteries surroundin­g the Salem Witch Trials, the Bermuda Triangle, Bigfoot sightings and the eerie harbinger of doom known as Mothman.

9PM (HIST) Forged in Fire “Gladiators of the Forge: Let the Battles Begin” launches a fiveepisod­e event wherein the forge is transforme­d into a gladiatori­al arena for an unpreceden­ted competitio­n. In the opening battle, two smiths are tasked with forging a Roman Era Falx, a sickle-like implement.

9:30 PM $ The Challenge: USA This special edition of a global reality show franchise pits 28 fan favorites from some of CBS’ biggest competitio­n shows — “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race,” “Big Brother” and “Love Island” — against each other in a series of grueling tests, both physical and mental. In tonight’s 90-minute premiere, the players all are given $1,000 to start their individual challenge account, but they must win challenges or eliminate another player to add to that sum. In each episode, an algorithm pairs each twosome to square off in that challenge. T.J. Lavin is the host.
