Phillies take series from Braves, gain on wild card
Alec Bohm hit a goahead single in a five-run fifth inning and added an RBI double in the sixth, helping the host Philadelphia Phillies defeat Atlanta 7-2 Wednesday to take two of three from the Braves.
Kyle Gibson (6-4) allowed two runs and four hits in six innings, and the Phillies (51-47) tied St. Louis for the National League’s final wild card berth, pending the Cardinals’ game at Toronto later Wednesday.
“This is a competitive year and we’ve battled back and forth all the way along,” Bohm said. “It’s going to be an exciting finish here.”
“This was definitely big for us,” said catcher J.T. Realmuto, who was 2for-4 with two RBI on Wednesday.

1: Hanser Alberto had a two-run double during a six-run first as host Los Angeles avoided a threegame sweep.
Gavin Lux had three hits and drove in two runs, while Mookie Betts reached base four times for the NL-leading Dodgers (65-32), who had won 19 of 21 before losing twice to the major leagueworst Nationals (34-66).
Patrick Corbin (4-14) got two outs in the shortest of his 250 starts, allowing six runs, seven hits and a walk.

and Arizona scored two runs on Jose Herrera’s squeeze bunt in the seventh inning as host Arizona extended San Francisco’s losing streak to seven.

2: Julio Rodríguez connected again, hitting a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning and Seattle finished off a three-game sweep at home against Texas.
A day earlier, the 21year-old rookie sensation hit a leadoff home run in the first inning. That was his first swing since the All-Star Game because of a sore left wrist that was initially injured in the final game before the break in Texas.
Rodríguez had a breakout
performance in the All-Star Home Run Derby, where he smashed 81 shots over the wall. This home run was his 18th of the season.

Janson Junk (1-0) pitched five-plus innings of fourhit ball for visiting Los Angeles, earning his first major league win.
Shohei Ohtani reached base three times and drove in a run, and the Angels got their first series win since June 27-29 against the Chicago White Sox.

Cole Irvin allowed four hits over seven innings and host Oakland wrapped up its first winning sweep in 32 series this season.
Oakland, an AL-worst 38-63, won three in a row from AL West-leading

Rowdy Tellez hit a pair of three-run homers, Corbin Burnes won his fifth consecutive decison and host Milwaukee swept a twogame series between Central Division leaders.
Tellez homered off Chris Archer (2-5) for a 3-0 lead in the first and against Jharel Cotton for an 8-3 advantage in a five-run fourth.
Burnes (8-4) struck out 11 in six innings, reaching double digits for the eighth time this year. Archer tied his career high with six walks.

Victor Reyes hit a twoout, two-run double in the ninth off Taylor Rogers (1-5), a drive over right fielder Nomar Mazara, to give Detroit a walk-off win. The Padres are 14-21 since June 16.

Field with opposite-field home runs on consecutive first-inning pitches from Taijuan Walker. But the Mets stormed back in the home half of the first.

Orioles: Jackson Holliday,

● pitched four innings for Triple-A Syracuse, finishing strong after a shaky start in what is expected to be his last minor league rehab outing before rejoining New York’s rotation. Sidelined all season by a stress reaction in his right scapula, deGrom gave up four runs on a pair of homers and threw 41 of 67 pitches for strikes.
