Dade’s newest commissioner a closed book

-

New Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Cabrera did not take too long to start spreading division among the residents. Cabrera, endorsed by a political loser (former President Donald Trump), rushed to criticize Florida International University for holding a book-signing event for the author of “Cuban Privilege,” Susan Eva Eckstein.

Following in the steps of his famous supporter — who seems allergic to reading — Cabrera admitted criticizing the event based on a few excerpts that he conveniently extracted from the book.

Cabrera describes Miami-Dade County’s District 6 as the home of countless people who suffered under Cuba’s communist rulers. If he spent time informing himself, he could learn that there also are countless people in his district who suffered from leftand right-wing rulers in their respective countries of origin.

While Republican leader Sen. Mitch McConnell’s recent remarks recently said, “There is no room for anti-Semitism or white supremacy” in the GOP, District 6 voters apparently said, yes, there is room for such beliefs in Miami-Dade County. No doubt, Cabrera’s votes on the commission will cause havoc in the entire county.

Fortunately, as reflected in the midterm elections, most Americans are waking up. For example, some of the seditious conspirators who broke into the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, are now getting what they deserve.

What we need now is for all of Florida’s residents, including those in Miami-Dade’s District 6, to wake up and use a little bit more intelligence when they choose our future leaders. – Manuel Feijoo Fernandez-Jacobs, Coral Gables
