Bengals stop Chiefs again in a rematch of AFC title game

-

Joe Burrow threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, Samaje Perine rushed for a season-high 106 yards and the host Cincinnati Bengals beat the Kansas City Chiefs 27-24 on Sunday in their first meeting since the Bengals prevailed in last season's AFC championship game.

Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs lost their chance to avenge two losses to Burrow and Cincinnati last season. The Bengals beat the Chiefs last Jan. 2 to clinch the AFC North title, then won four weeks later in overtime — also by a 27-24 score — to reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 33 years.

In this matchup of elite quarterbacks, a defensive play in the fourth quarter was the turning point.

With the Chiefs leading 24-20, Cincinnati linebacker Germaine Pratt stripped Trave Kelce after a catch and recovered the fumble.

Burrow, working from his own 47, then completed six of seven passes for 53 yards, finishing the drive with an 8-yard TD pass to backup running back Chris Evans that gave the Bengals the lead with 8:54 remaining.

Ravens 10, Broncos

Tyler Huntley capped a 91-yard drive with a 2yard touchdown run with 28 seconds remaining and host Baltimore overcame Lamar Jackson’s knee injury to edge Denver. Jackson left after the first quarter with an injured knee and the Broncos mostly shut down Baltimore after that. But on their final possession, the Ravens drove 16 plays. Huntley converted fourthand-2 from the Denver 18 with a short run. Then Kenyan Drake caught a 13-yard pass. Huntley scored on the next play. Russell Wilson led the Broncos back into Baltimore territory, but Brandon McManus came up short on a 63-yard field goal as time expired.

Eagles 35, Titans 10:

Jalen Hurts strengthened his MVP bid by throwing for 380 yards and three touchdowns and running for another score for host Philadelphia. A.J. Brown caught two TDS against his former team. Hurts has led the Eagles to an 11-1 start, their first time with that record since 2004 and the fourth time in franchise history. The Eagles bottled up Tennessee’s Derrick Henry (30 yards on 11 carries) and limited Ryan Tannehill to 141 passing yards.

Raiders 27, Chargers 20: Derek Carr completed two long touchdown passes to Davante Adams in the third quarter to rally the host Raiders. That performance backed an aggressive defense that sacked Justin Herbert five times. The Raiders won their third consecutive game and split their season series with the Chargers. The loss was a significant setback for the Chargers who are just outside the playoff picture.

Packers 28, Bears

18: Aaron Rodgers led three fourth-quarter scoring drives as Green Bay rallied in Chicago. Packers receiver Christian Watson ran for a 46-yard TD in the closing minutes after Jaire Alexander intercepted Justin Fields. Green Bay trailed 19-10 after three quarters but came away with its eighth straight win over the Bears. Fields ran for a 56-yard score in the second quarter and finished with 71 yards on six attempts. He was 20 of 25 passing for 254 yards but threw two picks. Chicago has lost six in a row.

Commanders 20, Giants 20 (OT): The Giants’ Graham Gano came up well short on a 58-yard field goal as time expired in East Rutherford, N.J. Taylor Heinicke threw two TD passes for Washington and hit a crucial fourth-down pass on a tying 90-yard TD drive late in the fourth quarter. The Giants ended a two-game losing streak; the Commanders are unbeaten in four and have only one loss in their last eight games.

Seahawks 27, Rams 23:

DK Metcalf caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith with 36 seconds to play to send host Los Angeles (3-9) to its sixth loss in a row. .Smith passed for a career-high 367 yards and threw three TD passes as the Seahawks (7-5) snapped a two-game skid. Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner, who played the previous 10 seasons for Seattle, had two sacks and an interception.

Steelers 19, Falcons

Kenny Pickett tossed a 17-yard TD pass to Connor Heyward, Matthew Wright kicked four field goals and the Steelers made it two in a row for the first time this season. Host Atlanta squandered an opportunity near the goal line for the second week in a row. This time, a holding penalty wiped out a potential gamewinning TD with 5:27 left. The Falcons kicked a 28-yard field goal but could not close further.

Lions 40, Jaguars

Host Detroit scored on all five of its drives in the first half to take a 17-point lead, and the Lions scored on their first three possessions of the second half to pull away. The Jaguars had a scare on the last play of the second quarter when Trevor Lawrence was sacked and grabbed his left knee, but he returned in the second half.
