The University of Miami has secured its eighth scholarship commitment from the transfer portal, this one a former Iowa cornerback.

Graduate transfer Terry Roberts, a 5-10, 180pound fifth-year senior this past season, announced his decision Monday evening on social media. The Hurricanes are especially in need of cornerbacks, as five-star prospect Cormani McClain flipped his commitment last week from UM to Colorado. Three former UM cornerbacks recently transferred: Al Blades Jr., Isaiah Dunson

and Khamauri Rogers.

Roberts, 22, played in five games this past season but reportedly was sidelined by an injury leading to the Oct. 22 Ohio State game. He had three starts last season and amassed 13 tackles (nine solo) with one interception and three pass breakups.

He came to Iowa in 2018 as a three-star defensive back out of Erie, Pennsylvania’s Cathedral Prep.

Roberts finished his Iowa career with 47 tackles and four starts in 33 games, with seven pass breakups and two interceptions.

One transfer cornerback, UCF’s Davonte Brown,

recently joined the Hurricanes and the following four-star prep prospects signed during the early signing period: Robert Stafford out of Melbourne Eau Gallie, Damari Brown

out of Plantation American Heritage, and Antione Jackson out of Fort Lauderdale Dillard.

UM, FAU REMAIN IN MEN’S AP TOP 25

Florida Atlantic climbed three spots to

No. 21 after winning three times last week, all on the road, to extend its program record for consecutive wins to 18 in men’s basketball.

The Owls (19-1, 9-0 Conference USA) were one spot behind Miami (15-4, 6-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference), which slipped from No. 17 after a two-point weekend road loss at Duke.

FAU has won three consecutive road games by an average of nearly 12 points since they entered the AP rankings a week ago for the first time in school history.

“For our guys to go on this road trip in this swing of five games in 10 days and three games in six days, with the tough travel that we have — we’re pretty far away from home — and come away with five wins is a testament to their determination and character more than anything else,” coach Dusty May said after the Owls’ 67-59 win over UTEP on Saturday night at El Paso.

Purdue returned to the top spot, moving up two spots after Temple knocked off No. 1 Houston over the weekend. Alabama climbed two spots to No. 2, with Houston, Tennessee and Kansas State rounding out the top five.
