NO HEGEMONY HERE

In the Jan. 24 article “In 2022, journalism by the Miami Herald, el Nuevo Herald changed policy, saved lives,” reporter Andres Viglucci refers to Latin America and the Caribbean as the Herald’s back yard. I find that offensive.

The region comprises many sovereign countries, none of which see themselves as anybody’s back yard. Please be careful with word choice.
