record-breaking heat to a chill in the air. South Florida weather is going up and down, up and down.

“A roller-coaster ride,” said CBS Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.

That ride began on Monday, when the 88-degree high temperature in Miami broke a record for January, according to Brian McNoldy, senior research associFrom ate at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School.

But just like a roller coaster, South Florida is felt a dip on Tuesday thanks to the first of two cold fronts.

Most of the region started the day in the low 70s. It was in the mid-60s in the interior suburbs.

But there goes that roller coaster again on Wednesday, with high temperatures climbing the curve to the 80s.

And that yo-yo isn’t done. Expect rain on Thursday ahead of a second cold front. Then temperatures will plunge Thursday night and into Friday and Saturday, when it’s forecast to cool down to the 50s and 60s.

According to the National Weather Service, the low temperatures Thursday night into Friday morning will dip to the 40s near Lake Okeechobee, the low 50s in Southwest Florida and the mid-50s along the east coast. And the highs won’t exceed the upper 60s and low 70s.

And the best part? We can all breathe.

“The drier air mass will also act to reduce the amount of moisture in the lower boundary levels resulting in much less muggy conditions and beautiful weather,” National Weather Service forecasters said in their forecast discussion.

Having trouble keeping up with all the ups and downs? Here’s what the weather service says to expect this week:

The forecast this week from the National Weather Service in Miami:

Wednesday: Mostly sunny; high 83, low 69

Thursday: 30% chance of rain; high 79, low 61

Friday: Mostly cloudy; high 73, low 65

Saturday: Partly sunny; high 75, low 69

Sunday: Partly sunny; high 78, low 69
