Alcaraz to defend Miami Open title if health allows
The Miami Open tennis tournament is six weeks away, and defending men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz is scheduled to play if he is healthy.
A lot is expected of the young Spanish phenom, whose career and rankings took off after he won his first big event in Miami Gardens last spring. Alcaraz became the first Spaniard to win the Miami Open and the youngest player to win. He was 18 years and 333 days old when he beat Casper Ruud in the final.
He went on to win in Madrid and won his first Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open.
Alcaraz has been battling injuries early this season and was forced to pull out of the Australian Open due to a hamstring injury.
But he has the Miami Open on his schedule and if he is healthy, he plans to be back at Hard Rock Stadium to defend his title.
Miami Open organizers have begun getting ready for the tournament, which runs March 19 to April 2, and announced on Tuesday the first group of food and beverage partners and other on-site offerings.
“With a Sunday start this year, we can bring an extra day of the best tennis in the world to Miamians,” said tournament director James Blake. “We’re also thrilled to offer a taste of the city to those on campus from around the world. Miami’s culture is so unique and vibrant, and we’re
proud to be able to showcase it on-site, bigger and better than ever before.”
Stella Artois joins Maestro Dobel Tequila, which returns as the tournament’s Official Tequila and Cocktail Sponsor, along with Miami seafood restaurant Ella’s Oyster Bar.
The food court features six local restaurants, including Novecento, Omakai, SuViche, Cheeseburger Baby, Dos Croquetas and Chef Jimmy Dean’s Kitchen & Chuck Wagon. Santa Margherita, the new Official Wine of the Miami Open, will join the food court.
Frites Artois by Stella Artois joins Ella Coffee, Bodega Taqueria y Tequila
and Forno Flatbreads among the dining options. Also returning this year is Kiki on the River. Botran Rum will host a rum lounge. At American Social Bar & Kitchen, diners will be able to reserve tables ahead of time.
