William Roberts III, an offensive lineman at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas and the son of rapper Rick Ross, has made his college decision.

Roberts over the weekend announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he has orally committed to play at BethuneCookman University in Daytona Beach.

According to his 247 Sports recruiting page, Roberts had offers from eight other schools, including Power 5 options such as Miami, Texas

A&M, Syracuse and Colorado.

Roberts, 6-2 and 270 pounds, has been on the

St. Thomas Aquinas varsity team since his freshman year and started each of the past two seasons, helping the Raiders win their fourth and fifth consecutive state titles — a state record. Roberts was third-team All-County for the Miami Herald in Classes 4M and 3M this year.

Ross, who graduated from Miami Carol City, played football at Albany State, which, like BethuneCookman, is one of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities.

Albany State also offered Roberts a scholarship.

FAMU’s new head coach: Florida A&M introduced James Colzie III as head coach, elevating him from the interim position.

Colzie, who joined the staff before the 2022 season to coach defensive backs, had been filling in as head coach during the search to replace Willie Simmons, who recently left to become running backs coach at Duke.

"It's truly an honor to join names like William Bell, Jake Gaither, Rudy

Hubbard, Billy Joe, and Willie Simmons to hold the illustrious title of Head Football Coach at Florida A&M, and I am ready to do my part of carrying on the tradition of this storied university as the #1 public HBCU in the country," Colzie said in a statement.

Colzie, 49, played at Florida State. His coaching stops have included FSU and Florida International.

FAMU was 12-1 this season and 8-0 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Rattlers defeated Howard, 30-26, in the Celebration Bowl on Dec. 16 in Atlanta.
