Swiatek coasts into semifinals in Dubai
Top-seeded Iga Swiatek breezed to a 6-3, 6-2 win over No. 6 Qinwen Zheng on Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in the United Arab Emirates.
Swiatek will face Russian qualifier Anna Kalinskaya, who beat thirdseeded Coco Gauff on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, Sorana Cirstea of Romania dropped the first set and trailed 5-1 in the second before rallying for a 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 win over
Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic.

Jakub Mensik of the Czech Republic recorded a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) upset over top-seeded Andrey Rublev to advance to the semis of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.

Golf: Charlie Woods
was unsuccessful in his first attempt at qualifying for a PGA Tour event. The 15-year-old son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods carded a 12 at the par-4 seventh hole and finished 16-over 86 at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound. The pre-qualifying event was one of four for the PGA Tour’s Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, a tournament formerly known as the Honda Classic . ... Steve Pate carded a 6-under-par 67 for a one-stroke lead at the Trophy Hassan II in Rabat, Morocco. Pate, seeking his first PGA Tour Champions win, leads Australians Steve Allan

MLB: Right-hander Mitch Keller, 27, agreed to a five-year, $77 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to multiple reports. Keller struck out 210 batters and was named an All-Star in 2023. He had two years remaining on his existing contract.
