Deputies fatally shoot a county worker who had killed his colleague, BSO says
deputies gunned down a transit worker who had shot at them after killing his colleague at a county busrepair facility in Pompano Beach on Wednesday night, authorities say.
Around 11:30 p.m., deputies rushed to 3201 W. Copans Rd. in response to a shooting, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. While the deputies were driving to the Broward County Transit facility, they were told a man had been shot and that the shooter was still in the area.
After arriving, a 59-yearold man shot at deputies and they returned fire, killing him, the agency said. Deputies say they learned moments later that the man they had just gunned down had killed his 42-year-old co-worker following an argument.
“He actually shot and killed one of his co-workBroward ers prior to the deputies making contact with him,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Veda Coleman Wright told reporters near the crime scene.
Both men worked for Broward County Transit, Gregory Meyer, a county spokesman, told the Miami Herald. He said the facility where the shootings happened is where the agency’s buses are serviced and repaired.

Three deputies who opened fire have been placed on administrative leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates the police shooting. The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting of the 42-year-old worker.
Counselors were deployed early Thursday morning to assist employees affected by the shooting, the county said.
“This is a tragic loss of life. Our Broward County family grieves the loss of these two transit employees,” Broward County Mayor Nan Rich said in a statement. “Let us keep their memories in our thoughts and prayers as we process this terrible loss.”
