This new Miami restaurant brings New York and Italy to Upper Buena Vista

La Màrtola isn’t a waterfront restaurant, but its goal is to celebrate coastal cuisine — in particular, the cuisine you find on the Italian, French and Spanish Rivieras.

The new restaurant from New York food and beverage entrepreneur Paolo Domeneghetti and Martino de Rosa, the internationally known owner of La Filiale, a pizza spot in Erbusco, Italy, is located in Miami’s Buena Vista neighborhood.

The menu features classic fare: wood-fired or grilled meats, fish and vegetables. There’s also what the restaurant calls a “world-class gelato program” led by Simone Bonini.

Starters include oysters, orata (bream) crudo and bluefin akami tuna tartare with gin, grapefruit and orange, as well as lobster salad or paleta Iberica with chips. There’s also lamb, grilled turbot, rotisserie chicken and bistecca Fiorentina and house specialties such as olive ascolane, fried cremini and heirloom tomatoes. You can also order pasta, including tagliolini al limone or bucatini guanciale.

While the white Europeanstyle dining room does not look like a typical pizza joint, fear not — pizza is also on the menu. The Neapolitan-style pizzas are made in a woodfired oven. The choices include the Carbonera (pecorino romano fondue, guanciale, eggs, cream, fried zucchini flower) or the Vesuvio (smoked scamorza cheese, San Marzano tomatoes, sausage, oregano, lemon zest).

Domeneghetti said in a statement that the restaurant strives for elegant simplicity.

“We highlight the simplicity and quality of classics, blending tradition and innovation to create a space that inspires the art of savoring life,” he said.
