John C. Murray April 9, 1937 - March 9, 2024

Coral Gables, Florida John Cameron Murray, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home in Coral Gables on Saturday, March 9 th . He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Gina, and his brother Dr. Donald Murray. He is survived by his five children—Mary Ann Hull (Randy Hull), Cameron Murray (Susan Murray), Karen Murray (Tommy Kimen), Jean Hayes (Bob Hayes), and Bob Murray. He is also survived by his five grandchildren who he truly adored— Lily and Mia Hayes, Kyle and Conor Hull, and Brilyn Kimen.

John was born April 9,1937 to Flora and Harry Murray in Coral Gables. John graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1955, where he played on the basketball team. While studying Architecture at Notre Dame, his father’s illness prompted John’s return home, where he helped support his mother and brother. At his father’s passing, John stepped in to run Murnor Studio, the well-regarded photography studio established by his dad in 1925. For more than six decades, John photographed dignitaries, including Ronald Reagan, and many Miami families, who were proud to have their images displayed in his Murnor Studio window.

In the 1960s, John met Gina Gaskins, from Palmdale, Florida. John and Gina wed at The Church of the Little Flower in 1964 and raised their family in Coral Gables. A passionate University of Miami Hurricanes fan from childhood and a long-time season ticket holder, John and Gina would rarely miss a UM football or basketball game. They often lunched at Burger Bobs, where he held court and shared laughs with friends. John was a man of faith, who traveled widely and had a passion for politics and history. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving, involved father and a premier photographer in the community who always had a story to share.

A funeral mass will be held in John’s honor on Friday, April 12 at St. Augustine Church in Coral Gables at 2pm. In Lieu of flowers, a donation can be made directly to John’s favorite charity:
