Phillies sign Strahm to extension, trade Cave to Rockies

Philadelph­ia Phillies left-hander Matt Strahm agreed to a contract extension through the 2025 season, the team announced Sunday.

Financial terms were not disclosed on the deal for Strahm, however the club holds a vesting option for the 2026 season.

Also Sunday, the Phillies traded outfielder Jake Cave to the Colorado Rockies for cash considerat­ions. The Rockies, in turn, placed right-hander German Marquez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster for Cave.

Strahm, 32, posted a 9-5 record with two saves and a 3.29 ERA in a careerhigh 56 appearance­s (10 starts) last season, his first with Philadelph­ia. He worked seven scoreless appearance­s (5 1⁄3 innings) during the Phillies’ postseason run through the National League Championsh­ip Series.

Strahm owns a 26-33 record with six saves and a 3.69 ERA in 263 career appearance­s (35 starts) with the Kansas City Royals (2016-17), San Diego Padres (2018-21), Boston Red Sox (2022) and the Phillies.

Cave, 31, batted .212 with five homers and 21 RBI in 65 games last season with Philadelph­ia.

He is a career .231 hitter with 38 homers and 139 RBI in 400 games with the Minnesota Twins (2018-22) and Phillies.

Athletics: Oakland has acquired right-hander Austin Adams from the New York Mets for cash considerat­ions.

The Athletics selected Adams to their 40-man roster and placed righthande­r Trevor Gott on the 60-day injured list. Gott is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entire season and part of 2025, MLB.com reported Friday.

Adams, 32, went 0-1 with a 5.71 ERA in 24 relief appearance­s last season with the Arizona Diamondbac­ks. He signed as a free agent with the Mets on Nov. 30.

Adams is 6-5 with a 4.17 ERA in 132 appearance­s (two starts) with the Washington Nationals (2017-19), Seattle Mariners (2019), San Diego Padres (2020-22) and the Diamondbac­ks (2023).

Gott, 31, signed a oneyear deal worth $1.5 million with the Athletics in December.

He went 0-5 with a 4.19 ERA in 64 relief appearance­s with the Mariners and the Mets in 2023.

New York acquired Gott from the Mariners in July.

Gott is 16-15 with a 4.65 ERA in 255 career relief appearance­s with six teams.

White Sox: Chicago signed veteran outfielder

Kevin Pillar to a majorleagu­e contract Sunday, two days after they released him.

Right-hander Touki Toussaint was designated for assignment in a correspond­ing move by the White Sox.

Pillar is expected to serve as depth in the outfield behind Luis Robert Jr., Andrew Benintendi and

Dominic Fletcher. Pillar batted .250 with five RBI in 18 games in spring training before he was released by Chicago.

He was penciled into Sunday’s starting lineup in the spring training finale against the Colorado Rockies,

batting leadoff and playing right field.

Pillar, 35, batted .228 with nine homers and 32 RBI in 81 games last season with the Atlanta Braves.

He is a career .257 hitter with 106 homers and 423 RBI in 1,114 games with the Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Braves.

Toussaint, 27, posted a 4-7 record with a 4.97 ERA in 20 games (16 starts) split between the Cleveland Guardians and White Sox last season.

He is 14-14 with a 5.21 ERA in 77 career games (39 starts) with the Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Guardians and White Sox.
