Dolphins re-signing O-lineman Lamm, sources say

- Herald Staff and Wire Reports — DANIEL OYEFUSI AND BARRY JACKSON

The Dolphins are resigning offensive tackle Kendall Lamm, a league source told the Miami Herald, bringing back a reliable veteran who filled in multiple times as a starter last season.

Lamm, 31, is returning on a one-year deal, a source said. He started eight games at both tackle spots in 2023.

The Dolphins originally signed Lamm in November 2022 amid a slew of injuries. He started one game, a Week 17 matchup against New England, but injured his ankle and did not play in the final two games.

He re-signed on a oneyear deal for 2023 and started the first two games at left tackle as Terron Armstead dealt with an injury. He later filled in for one game at right tackle when Austin Jackson was hurt.

With Lamm returning for another season as the top swing tackle option, the only unresolved position along the line is starting right guard. Miami has multiple in-house candidates to replace Robert Hunt, who signed with the Carolina Panthers, including Liam Eichenberg, Robert Jones, Lester Cotton and recently signed Jack Driscoll. The Dolphins have also been in communication with free agent guards and could look to the draft this month to add depth.

ELSEWHERE

Chiefs: Veteran quarterback Carson Wentz agreed to join Kansas City, where he will serve as a backup to Patrick Mahomes, according to multiple reports. Wentz, 31, completed 17 of 24 passes for 163 yards, two scores and an interception in two appearances last season with the Los Angeles Rams. Blaine Gabbert was the only backup to throw a pass last season for the Chiefs; he is now a free agent. Chad Henne, a former Dolphin, served as Mahomes’ primary backup from 2020 through 2022.

Vikings: The team suspended offensive coordinator Wes Phillips for three weeks following the legal resolution of his December 2023 traffic stop in Minneapolis. The suspension began Tuesday and he can return to work April 23.

He will miss the first week of the offseason strength and conditioning program that begins April 14. Phillips, 45, was stopped by police Dec. 8 and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence. He pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor careless driving.

Men’s college basketball: SMU named Andy Enfield its new basketball, luring him away from Southern California after 11 seasons. He replaces Rob Lanier, fired last month after a 20-win season, just his second in Dallas. SMU will play in the Atlantic Coast Conference beginning next season. Enfield, 54, coached at Florida Gulf Coast earlier in his career, guiding the 15th-seeded Eagles to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 in 2013.

Women’s college basketball: Tennessee fired coach Kellie Harper after five seasons, 108 wins and four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. The move came one week after the Lady Vols were eliminated from the second round of the tournament. It also came the same day that the buyout for Harper, 46, dropped by 50 percent. She is owed $2.22 million.

NBA: Point guard
