Pembroke Pines, Florida - Martin Taylor, M.D. passed away on March 31 at the age of 86. Dr. Taylor was born in Jamaica Queens, NY to Herman Taylor, M.D., and Bertha Rea Taylor. Their family moved to Miami where he graduated from Coral Gables Senior High. Dr. Taylor earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Miami, and in 1963 he graduated from The University of Miami School of Medicine, launching his distinguished career as a physician.

For 50 years, Dr. Taylor practiced family medicine in Miami. First, alongside Jerome Kramer, M.D. in Miami’s Westchester, and then beginning in 1978 - as a sole practitioner in Miami’s Kendall Lakes. With office hours starting at 7:00 a.m., six days per week, Dr. Taylor was available to his patients, with unparalleled, uncommon, convenience. His patients adored him! They immensely appreciated his caring nature. During the early years of his practice, he even went on house calls. He was a real life Marcus Welby, M.D.! Dr. Taylor was on the staff of South Miami Hospital and Baptist Hospital. He also served as a doctor in the U.S. Army reserves.

Dr. Taylor loved playing the piano, and telling jokes. His memory was uncanny. He had a lifelong affinity for beautiful cars, old and new... He thoroughly enjoyed going to auto shows.

Incredibly important to Dr. Taylor was his successful participation in the early research of L-Dopa. He was among a very small number of physicians who received FDA approval to administer this new drug to Parkinson’s -disease patients in clinical trials in the 1960’s. It was his own father, severely afflicted by Parkinson’s (diagnosed at age 39), which catalyzed his interest in doing all he could to help alleviate the debilitating suffering he saw.

“I enjoy helping people feel better,” was Dr. Taylor’s stated calling in life.

He is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 28 years, Arlene Taylor, stepdaughters Kriss (Evan) Casanova-Rutkowski, and Nicole Casanova, step granddaughters Kaia and Koelle. From a previous marriage, he is survived by two daughters, and son Bret Taylor. He was predeceased in death by his brother Dr. Harold Taylor.

Dr. Martin Taylor tirelessly provided compassionate care to so many, for so long. Now he is gloriously embraced by the incredibly well-deserved, immeasurable, caring love of the Lord our G-d.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a date to be announced in the near future, to remember and honor Dr. Taylor.

The family suggests tribute-gift donations to The Parkinson’s Foundation.
