Mullins’ blast in ninth helps O’s sweep Twins

Cedric Mullins crushed a 1-2 pitch for a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Baltimore

Orioles a 4-2 victory and three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon.

Mullins’ fifth homer of the season sailed into the right field seats and his first career walk-off hit gave the Orioles three home runs for the fifth consecutiv­e game. Baltimore has won four straight games.

Gunnar Henderson homered for the third consecutiv­e game with a firstinnin­g blast and Anthony Santander tied the game at 2-all with a homer in the seventh for the Orioles. Henderson’s homer leading off the bottom of the first inning was his sixth long ball of the season.

Baltimore starter Albert Suarez threw 5 2⁄3 shutout innings, allowing only three hits, in his first major league outing in almost seven years.

Rangers 5, Tigers 4: Josh Smith’s pinch-hit double scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning and visiting Texas edged Detroit.

Smith brought home Ezequiel Duran, who reached on an infield single and advanced to second on an error — one of three committed by the Tigers.

Royals 4, White Sox 2: Salvador Perez blasted a go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning and five pitchers combined on a five-hitter as visiting Kansas City topped Chicago in Game 1 of a doublehead­er.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Brewers 1, Padres 0: Blake Perkins drove in the game’s only run with an 8th-inning single to lead host Milwaukee over San Diego to salvage the finale of a three-game series. Milwaukee was being nohit by Padres starter Michael King, who got charged with the loss, through 6 2⁄3 innings before Willy Adames broke it up with a bloop single to right field.

Mets 9, Pirates 1: Luis Severino and three relievers combined on a fivehitter for host New York, which beat Pittsburgh to complete a three-game sweep. Starling Marte and Harrison Bader both hit two-run homers while Tyrone Taylor and Brandon Nimmo each had tworun singles for the Mets, who have won 10 of 13. Francisco Alvarez had an RBI fielder’s choice in the eighth. Taylor finished with three hits.

Bryan Reynolds delivered a run-scoring infield single for the Pirates, who have lost six of eight.
