MCA ARTEDGE 50
The Museum of Contemporary Art toasted its 50th birthday and the debut of its latest exhibition, “Takashi Murakami: The Octopus Eats Its Own Leg,” with a star-studded bash. Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Kerry James Marshall, and Hebru Brantley were among the notable attendees to fête Murakami, who treated guests to a special preview of his retrospective before the evening’s elegant tented dinner in Lake Shore Park. After remarks by MCA Director Madeleine Grynsztejn and a video message by the evening’s musical curator, Pharrell, Janelle Monáe closed out the soirée with a spirited performance for the crowd of more than 600.
