It’s the most wunderbar time of the year when Christkindlmarkt (November 17–December 23) brings German spirit to Carmel. The Bavarian-style openair market features more than 40 vendors around an ice rink. New this year: giant Christmas pyramids— multilevel carousels—à la German markets. Also in Carmel, City Center offers a cluster of boutiques and restaurants. Shop fashions, bath and body, and jewelry, then try tapas, pub grub, gourmet ice cream and local coffee. Or sip generously at Peace Water Winery, which donates part of its profits to charity.

In downtown Noblesville, make the rounds of Noblesville Square’s shops and eateries, as well as the old courthouse’s big Christmas tree and lights. The Nickel Plate District in downtown Fishers beckons with more lights and chic shopping, including new neighbors—ikea and Topgolf.

At Nickel Plate Arts in Noblesville, see the Handmade in Indiana exhibit, visit Santa’s Workshop and do a Holiday Date Night—art projects with wine and beer. In Carmel’s Arts and Design District, the Indiana Design Center offers home redo resources, including showrooms, design pros and artists. Performing arts shine, too. Watch Mary Poppins and Handel’s Messiah at The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, a multi-venue site for music, dance and theater.
