‘Walk in the Woods’ coming to theaters

Q.On “Downton Abbey,” can you tell me why he’s called Lord Grantham, but his family name is Crawley?

A.Crawley is the family name. Earl of Grantham is the title held by Robert, which passes through heirs. Matthew Crawley was set to become the next of Earl of Grantham before his untimely death; Matthew and Mary’s son is now due to receive the title.

As for why Robert is called Lord Grantham, the Royal Central website says, “In Britain Barons, Viscounts, Earls and Marquesses can be referred to as Lord X instead of by their full title. This is why you may have heard him called Lord Grantham and the Earl of Grantham throughout the show.”

Q.I’m looking for “A Walk in the Woods,” with Nick Nolte and Robert Redford. It was supposed to be released in January. Did I miss it?

A.The film did appear in January at the Sundance Film Festival. At the time of that showing, it was picked up for theatrical distribution beginning in September.

“A Walk in the Woods” is based on the humor-laden book of the same name by Bill Bryson, who described his attempt to walk the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail. The cast also includes Emma Thompson, Mary Steenburgen, Nick Offerman and Kristen Schaal. Ken Kwapis (“Big Miracle,” “He’s Just Not That Into You”) directed.

Q.Will “Red Band Society” be returning? I loved this show and have heard nothing about its return.

A.The Fox drama seems unlikely to return. Production was shut down after 13 episodes were made, and the last three were shown on Saturday night, often a dumping ground for unsuccessful shows. In spite of some good early buzz (I was a fan of the show at first), Ew.com noted that the ratings started small and declined from there.

Q.I once saw a show on TV that Peter Falk was in. He was in a nursing home, and he and his grandson escaped, or left. He told family that he had run a circus, but they didn’t seem to believe him. He was estranged from his son. Peter Falk took his grandson to an island, and around the remnants of the circus. Do you know the name of this show, and where can I find a copy to buy?

A.You’re remembering “Wilder Days,” a movie made for TNT in 2003. It starred Falk, Tim Daly and Josh Hutcherson. It has been released on DVD. If your local retailer can’t get it for you, I have seen it for sale online at sites including Amazon.com and Deepdiscount.com.

Q.I was wondering if “The Heights,” which was canceled in the middle of its first season, ever got a DVD release. Or is there some other way to view it?

A.“The Heights” was certainly a curious TV case. Airing on Fox in 1992, the drama about a fictional rock band generated a real-life No. 1 hit, “How Do You Talk to an Angel?” But you can have a hit record and still fail to collect enough viewers to succeed in TV, and the show was canceled after a few months on the air. That said, I don’t know of an authorized release of the series for home viewing.

Q.I think that Walton Goggins should be nominated for an Emmy for his performance as the chilling yet fascinating murderous outlaw Boyd Crowder in the series “Justified.” Any thoughts?

A.It’s certainly a performance deserving high praise in a series that was loaded with top-notch acting. But the Emmys can be oblivious to greatness. Goggins had a spectacular Goggins final season on “The Shield” and wasn’t nominated then. He did receive a nomination for best supporting actor in a drama for “Justified” in 2011, losing to Peter Dinklage of “Game of Thrones.” Email questions to rheldenfels@thebeacon journal.com; please put “mailbag” in the subject line.
