Bryce McMurtry, Menomonee Falls:

The junior establishe­d a new state best in the 110-meter high hurdles Friday at the Oconomowoc Sectional with a time of 14.51 seconds. He was also a member of the Indians’ first-place 800 relay that won in 1 minute 28.53 seconds to help the team capture the sectional title.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Jackie Baldwin, Kenosha Bradford:

The Jacksonvil­le recruit was part of two Division 1 state-best efforts at the Janesville Parker Sectional on Friday. She won the 100 meters in 12 seconds and was a member of the 800 relay that finished in 1 minute 41.14 seconds. She also won the 200 in 24.99.

BASEBALL

WIAA regionals begin Tuesday and regional finals are slated for Thursday. Here are some intriguing matchups we could see in the regional finals.

This could be a showdown between two of the area’s top pitchers in Wisco’s Logan McShane and Milwaukee Lutheran’s Nick Winter.

Waterford is the higher seed, but Horlick scored a 9-8 victory when the teams met in the season opener.

Indian Trail defeated Central, 6-5, April 18.

Bradford beat the Badgers, 5-4, on May 22.

BOYS GOLF

The WIAA tournament continues Tuesday with sectional play. The top two teams qualify for the state tournament June 8-9 at University Ridge in Madison, as do the top three individual­s who are not members of a qualifying team. Here is schedule of area sectionals.

Homestead, at River Club, 9 a.m.; Kaukauna, at Fox Valley, 9:30 a.m.; Racine Case, at Ives Grove, 9:30 a.m.; Waukesha West, at Naga-Waukee, 9 a.m.

Shebogyan Falls, at The Bull,

Oakfield, at Whispering Springs, 9 a.m.

BOYS TENNIS

First-round matches are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday with competitio­n continuing through the quarterfin­als Friday. Saturday the consolatio­n semifinals begin at 8:30 a.m. with the

Greater Metro co-champion DSHA could take on the Warhawks, who finished second in the Classic 8.

Homestead needed a late goal to defeat the Warhawks, 3-2, on May 19. Brookfield East beat the Red Raiders, 2-1, on May 19.

SOFTBALL

WIAA sectional semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday and sectional finals for Thursday. Weather delays forced some teams, including top-ranked Westosha Central, to push back regional finals until Monday.

Both teams scored shutouts in their Division 1 first-round games. Greenfield scored a 9-2 victory over the Knights on May 13.

A victory for the host Highlander­s likely would set up a third showdown with North Shore rival Germantown on Thursday. Cudahy will have its hands full with the Lions, who won, 18-3, when the teams met April 14.

TRACK AND FIELD

Competitio­n begins Friday morning at 9:30 with Division 2 and 3 preliminar­y races. The Division 1 prelims begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday field events start at 9:30 a.m. with running finals beginning at 10:30 a.m.
