BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Two plays were challenged by video reviews, with the teams splitting the decisions. One of the calls cost the Cubs their manager, however. When Joe Maddon questioned a review at first base that went against Chicago in the third inning, he was ejected by crew chief Hunter Wendelstedt by rule. Wendelstedt tried to give Maddon a break by motioning him back toward the dugout but when the manager kept coming, he got tossed. The Brewers lost a challenge at second base in the fifth in which Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was shaken up and had to leave the game with concussion-like symptoms.

Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse has allowed at least one home run in all of his 12 home starts. Sixteen of his 25 homers allowed have come at Miller Park.

STATITUDES

OF Michael Reed, who was having a breakthrough season at Class AA Biloxi, had a big first game Saturday after being promoted to Class AAA Colorado Springs. Reed went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and a walk.

RHP Jorge Lopez is having a big season at Biloxi. Lopez picked up his 10th victory Saturday and is 5-1 with a 1.88 ERA in seven starts since the all-star break, with 15 walks and 46 strikeouts in 48 innings.

COLORADO SPRINGS (AAA): The Sky Sox pounded out 17 hits to beat the Iowa Cubs, 9-7. Matt Clark and Luis Sardinas had three hits apiece.

BREVARD COUNTY (A): Clint Coulter drove in a pair of runs and scored once as the Manatees beat the host Jupiter Hammerheads, 5-4.

WISCONSIN (A): Carlos Leal scored the Timber Rattlers’ lone run as they dropped a 6-1 decision to the Quad Cities River Bandits.
