Speed a factor in crash that leaves one dead

A 21-year-old woman died Saturday in a single-car crash in the Town of Rock in Rock County.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Department identified the driver as Alexy Varela, 21, of Janesville. At about 8 a.m., her car veered into a ditch along S. River Road., became airborne and struck some trees.

Speed appeared to be a factor, the Sheriff’s Department said.
