Driver arrested after chase, squad crash

-

A West Allis woman, 23, was arrested after a slow speed chase Saturday in Waukesha County that ended with her vehicle striking a squad car and forcing a deputy to dash out of the way to avoid being hit, the Sheriff’s Department said.

According to a news release:

A sheriff’s squad attempted to stop a 2014 Jeep Compass on westbound I-94 about 2:10 a.m. west of Moorland Road in Brookfield for operating without lights. Another sheriff’s squad was responding to a complaint of a possible intoxicated driver in the same area.

The Jeep failed to yield to the squad’s emergency lights and siren as it continued westbound on I-94 at about 40 mph. Speeds continued to slow to less than 5 mph when the Jeep crashed into the median wall east of Barker Road in the Town of Brookfield.

The Jeep then left the crash scene with the squad following. The squad investigating the complaint of a possible intoxicated driver had just released a motorist from a traffic stop on westbound I-94 east of Redford Blvd. in the City of Pewaukee as the vehicle pursuit approached that location.

The Jeep then crossed all lanes of the interstate and crashed into the squad that was completing the other traffic stop. The deputy standing outside of his squad had to run to avoid being struck by the Jeep.

The woman was the lone occupant of the Jeep. She was transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening and taken into custody.
