Assisted living center evacuated for fire

Crews evacuated a Dane County assisted living facility about 3:40 a.m. Saturday after a fire was contained to one room, according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators believe a mattress started on fire by a tenant smoking in the room at Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living 5475 Westshire Circle in Waunakee. Two tenants were transported as a precaution for smoke inhalation.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Waunakee Fire and EMS and Madison Fire and EMS responded.
