Lower prices seen

Economists anticipate that a gauge of U.S. consumer prices edged lower last month.

The Labor Department’s consumer price index is projected to show a decline of 0.1 percent in January from the previous month. Consumer prices have been mostly flat or down, reflecting the steep slide in energy prices that began in 2014. The latest consumer price index is due out Friday.
