Arizona D’backs (Scottsdale, Ariz.)

The Diamondbacks moved into go-for-it mode with the signing of free-agent ace Zack Greinke and the acquisition of Shelby Miller, dramatically upgrading their starting rotation. The addition of Tyler Clippard strengthens a bullpen anchored by submariner Brad Ziegler, an unorthodox closer.

Colorado Rockies (Scottsdale, Ariz.)

Does Jason Motte have enough left to be a closer again? The Rockies plan to find out. They also must wait to see if shortstop Jose Reyes will be suspended because of a domestic violence incident. A big part of spring training will be devoted to filling out the back end of a rotation headed by lefty Jorge De La Rosa.

Los Angeles Dodgers (Glendale, Ariz.)

Will Yasiel Puig ever totally fulfill his potential? If he does, look out. Centerfielder Joc Pederson flamed out in the second half of his rookie season and must show he has staying power. If Hyun-Jin Ryu bounces back from shoulder surgery, the Dodgers will have a lefty-dominated rotation topped by Clayton Kershaw and new addition Scott Kazmir.

San Diego Padres (Peoria, Ariz.)

The Padres look to regroup under new manager Andy Green after a slew of personnel changes resulted in mostly disappointment last season. Another round of changes landed Alexei Ramirez at shortstop, Jon Jay in left field and Fernando Rodney replacing Craig Kimbrel as closer.

San Francisco Giants (Scottsdale, Ariz.)

Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija were plugged into the rotation behind Madison Bumgarner, providing new depth for the pitching-minded club. Denard Span takes over in center field and the veteran contact hitter will be the leadoff man in a lineup that otherwise returns intact.
