ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BOYS BASKETBALL

Caleb Wagner, Muskego: The senior led Muskego to its second straight Classic 8 title with one of his most productive showings of the season. The 6-foot point guard finished with 32 points, three below his season high, in the clincher, a 79-71 victory over Waukesha South on Friday. A first-team all-conference choice last season, Wagner has raised his scoring average from 12.8 points per game last season to 21.8 and is averaging 20.3 in Classic 8 play.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nelida Colon-Rodriguez, Milwaukee Bay View: The Redcats clinched their first conference title since 2004 and third in school history with a 63-28 victory over Milwaukee Morse-Marshall on Friday. Colon-Rodriguez, a 5-foot-5 freshman guard, finished with 16 points, two assists and seven steals in the victory, which improved Bay View’s record to 12-0 in the City Red Division. She is averaging 21.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 5.8 steals per game.

GYMNASTICS

Taryn Sherman, Arrowhead: The Warhawks senior, the defending Division 1 state champion in the uneven bars, won two events at the Kenosha Invitation­al on Feb. 6. She won the bars with a score of 9.45 and took the balance beam with a 9.3 to help Arrowhead finish fourth with a score of 139.

HOCKEY

Henry Ersbo, KMMO: The senior defenseman helped the Kettle Moraine/ Mukwonago/Oconomowoc co-op snap out of an eight-game skid during which four losses were by one goal. Ersbo had a team-high three points in victories over University School and Madison West. He scored the tying goal in a 2-1 victory over University School that allowed KMMO to tie for fourth in the Classic 8. On Friday he scored the game-winner in a 3-2 overtime victory over West, his ninth goal of the season.

BOYS SWIMMING

D.J. Nowacki, Franklin: The Sabers junior led the team to the Southeast Conference title Feb. 6 by winning two individual events and helping two relays to titles. He took the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free in 1 minute 48.25 seconds and 4:52.06, respective­ly. He also anchored the 200 medley relay (1:40.13) and 400 free relay (3:23.51).

WRESTLING

Justin Folley, Wauwatosa: The senior, a state champion last year in Division 1 at 126 pounds, won the 132-pound Woodland Conference title Feb. 6 with a 19-3 technical fall of Greenfield’s Mateo Arteaga. On Saturday he returned to 126 pounds and cruised to a regional title at Nicolet, winning his two matches by pin.
