Dutch skater Sven Kramer won the 5,000 meters for the seventh time at the world championsh­ips in Kolomna, Russia, narrowly beating compatriot Jorrit Bergsma.

Kramer, who is also the

Olympic champion in the 5,000, took the gold medal in 6 minutes 10.31 seconds, beating Bergsma by 0.35 of a second.

Their closest challenger, Sverre Lunde Pedersen of Norway, was 4.77 seconds off Kramer’s time. No other skater came within 8 seconds of the champion.
