GAME REPORT

GIANTS 12, BREWERS 3

- Todd Rosiak

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE

Playing in left field for the first time since July 20, 2013, Ryan Braun quickly recorded an assist by gunning down Matt Duffy trying to stretch a single into a double in the second inning.

Denard Span’s five runs batted in were the most by a Giants player on opening day since Barry Bonds drove in five on April 2, 2002, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Span, Joe Panik and Buster Posey hit consecutive home runs in the eighth inning off Ariel Peña. It was the first time San Francisco hitters had homered three straight times since Bonds, Ray Durham and Pedro Feliz did it on July 20, 2006, against San Diego. The last team to hit three straight homers on opening day before Monday was the Padres against the New York Mets in 1997.

STATITUDES

Chris Capuano pitched a scoreless sixth. It was his first appearance in a Brewers uniform since Oct. 2, 2010.

Seven Brewers players were on their first opening-day roster. One, Keon Broxton, made his first career start (center field) and went 0 for 2. Another, Colin Walsh, made his major-league debut as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning. He lined out.

Madison Bumgarner walked Chris Carter with the bases loaded in the first inning, marking just the second time in his career and the first time since April 5, 2011.
