Reliever Yhonathan Barrios had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, which likely ends his 2016 season before it began. Barrios’ injury was discovered during spring training.
Manager Craig Counsell expects to use many different lineups as he figures out his personnel, but look for Domingo Santana to remain in the leadoff spot for a while. Counsell said he liked what he saw from the 23-year-old rightfielder when he led off in exhibition games. “It’s easy for us to say, ‘Just take your best at-bat,’ ” said Counsell. “But I really felt like he went and did it. So, you know he’s comfortable doing it.”

The last player with at least five RBI in his first game with a club was the Cubs’ Starlin Castro, with six in his debut May 7, 2010 in Cincinnati.
