Nebraska coach quits

-

Nebraska women’s basketball coach Connie Yori abruptly resigned Tuesday after 14 seasons following an alleged investigation into how she treated her players.

The Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald both reported based on anonymous sources that the university had investigated Yori’s treatment of players after concerns of bullying and disregard for players’ well-being were raised in February by several players and some support staff members.

Yori denied any wrongdoing and said she resigned for personal reasons.

The Cornhuskers finished 18-13 overall and just 9-9 in the Big Ten this season.

Retired soccer star Abby Wambach, 35, admitted to once trying cocaine and smoking marijuana some 10 years ago, according to court documents connected to her arrest on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants in Portland, Ore.

Wambach, who won a World Cup with the U.S. national team last summer, was arraigned Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court. She was not present, but her attorney entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf.

The documents said Wambach has no prior arrest record. In the documents, officers wrote that she first used marijuana at age 24 and her last use was at 25. It also states: “The defendant tried cocaine at age 25.”

A Portland police spokesman said it is standard for officers to ask about prior drug use.
