Butler snaps Villanova streak

Kethan Savage scored five of his 13 points during a decisive seven-point run to give No. 18 Butler a 66-58 victory over No. 1 Villanova on Wednesday night, ending the Wildcats’ 20game winning streak.

Butler (13-2, 2-1 Big East) improved to 4-0 against ranked opponents this season and extended its home winning streak to 12 games by beating a top-ranked team for the second time in school history.

The Bulldogs did it by upending the defending national champions and stopping the longest winning streak in Villanova history. Jalen Brunson had 23 points on a rugged shooting night for the Wildcats (14-1, 2-1), beaten for the first time since a 69-67 loss to Seton Hall in the Big East championsh­ip game last March. TOP 25

(3) Baylor 65, Iowa State 63: Manu Lecomte made a short high-arching jumper over a defender with 8 seconds left and Baylor remained undefeated.

(8) Duke 110, Georgia Tech 57: Grayson Allen had 15 points and seven assists in his return from a one-game suspension as Duke rolled.

(21) Notre Dame 77, (9) Louisville 70: Steve Vasturia’s 24 points led the way for the Irish.

Pittsburgh 88, (12) Virginia 76 (OT): Jamel Artis scored 24 points as Pittsburgh pulled away in overtime.

(14) Oregon 83, Washington 61: Tyler Dorsey hit 8 three-pointers and scored 28 points for the Ducks (14-2).

North Carolina State 104, (23) Virginia Tech 78: Dennis Smith Jr. had 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as North Carolina State knocked off Tech. BIG EAST

(10) Creighton 85, St. John’s 72: Freshman 7footer Justin Patton scored a season-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Creighton.

Providence 76, Georgetown 70: Jalen Lindsey hit 4 threepoint­ers and finished with 19 points as Providence pulled away at home. BIG TEN

Michigan State 93, Rutgers 65: Miles Bridges had six points and six rebounds in a 17minute return from an ankle injury, and Eron Harris scored 24 points.

Michigan 72, Penn St. 69: Derrick Walton scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as Michigan stormed back from a 14-point deficit.
