The club re-signs 8 practice squad players.

Green Bay — While fans of the Green Bay Packers remain sullen in the wake of Sunday’s pummeling in the NFC Championship Game, the organization already has begun preparing for the 2017 season.

The Packers re-signed eight players to futures contracts Tuesday as general manager Ted Thompson begins to construct what will eventually be a 90-man roster. All of them ended the year on the Packers’ practice squad.

The players are center Jacob Flores, outside linebacker Reggie Gilbert, wide receiver Antwan Goodley, linebacker Derrick Mathews, guard Lucas Patrick, nose tackle Brian Price, tight end Beau Sandland and safety Jermaine Whitehead

Goodley and Sandland are the only players who did not spend at least a portion of training camp with the Packers in 2016. Whitehead, Flores, Patrick and Price have been with the team since late July.

Whitehead and Price spent small portions of the year on the active roster. Whitehead played in two games as a special teamer; Price played just once.

The Packers are particularly high on Price and Sandland, both of whom received interest from other teams during the regular season. Price had his salary bumped from the standard $6,900 per week to $26,465 — the same amount he would have made with a base salary on the active roster.

Sandland, who signed with the Packers in early November, received a more modest raise. His base salary increased from $6,900 per week to $10,000.
