Gatorade honor: Divine Savior Holy Angels junior Meghan
Scott has been named the state girls cross country runner of the year by Gatorade. Scott won the WIAA Division 1 state title in the fall and then took sixth at the Nike Cross Nationals Heartland Regional championships. Honored: Waukesha West’s
Jarred Kelenic is Wisconsin’s representative on the maxpreps.com’s “Best Baseball Player in Each State for 2017." The junior outfielder played for the Team USA U-18 team that won a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico in October. Freres announces retirement:
Longtime Racine Prairie athletic director Sandy Freres has announced her plan to retire at the end of the school year. During Freres’ 35 years at Prairie, she also coached field hockey and girls basketball and served on WIAA committee on competitive equity. Committed: Slinger senior hitter/libero Clare Meyers will play at Brandeis University, a Division III school in Massachusetts, according to Jason Lauren of the National Scouting Report of Wisconsin.

1,000-point club: Former Sussex Hamilton basketball player Mackenzie Latt scored her 1,000th point at Davidson earlier this month. The 6-1 junior forward had 1,039 points after a 14-point effort in a victory over George Mason on Jan. 18. Latt, who played her senior year of high school ball in Michigan, leads the team in average points (15.9 points) and rebounds (8.3). Preseason All-American: North Central senior Nick Sotiros (West Allis Hale) was named a preseason All-American by D3baseball.com. Last season the first baseman led the team in almost every offensive category including batting average (.389), hits (68), doubles (22), triples (4), home runs (4), RBI (44), total bases (110) and slugging percentage (.629).
