Badgers can’t keep pace

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Wisconsin women’s basketball team made things interestin­g Sunday afternoon but couldn’t keep pace with No. 22 Michigan in a 75-66 defeat at the Crisler Center.

Katelynn Flaherty hit 6 three-pointers and scored 35 points to lead the Wolverines (21-5, 10-2 Big Ten). In the first half, Flaherty moved past 500 points for the season — the 11th player to do so in program history.

Wisconsin’s Courtney Fredrickso­n made a layup with 24 seconds left in the first half to trim the Badgers’ deficit to three, but Nicole Munger hit a threepoint­er seconds before the buzzer to push the Wolverines’ lead back up to six at the break.

Avyanna Young led Wisconsin (6-19, 1-11) with 23 points and 13 rebounds. She was 11 for 15. Cayla McMorris added 12 points, Fredrickso­n 11 and Marsha Howard 10.
