Badgers throwers take All-American honors

Two Wisconsin Badgers hit the field Saturday for their NCAA indoor championsh­ip debuts in College Station, Texas.

Weight throwers Riley Budde and Banke Oginni became All-Americans thanks to an eighth-place finish by Budde and a 16thplace from Oginni.

Budde threw a bomb of 71 feet on his first attempt.

Oginni’s best toss was in the second round at 63-9

Andy DeMichiei posted a hat trick as the Marquette men beat Robert Morris, 14-7, on Saturday in Moon Township, Pa.

DeMichiei scored the game’s first goal for the Golden Eagles (3-2) at the 12:39 mark of the first quarter before the Colonials scored three in a row. John Wagner and Ryan McNamara each scored to close out the first quarter and start an 11-0 MU run.

MU women: Marquette played a strong first half and Julianna Shearer set a program record with six goals scored, but Northweste­rn pulled away in the final 30 minutes en route to an 1810 win in Evanston, Ill. SOFTBALL

Wisconsin won a pair of games in Fort Collins, Colo., on Saturday.

The Badgers collected 12 hits in a 15-5 victory over Maine. Kirsten Stevens improved to 7-0 with the win. Brooke Wyderski and Stephanie Lombardo each homered for UW. Wyderski and Chloe Miller drove in four runs apiece.

UW (18-2) later used a 14-hit attack to beat Colorado State, 8-1. Kaitlyn Menz (10-2) got the win. Wyderski homered twice and Miller homered once and doubled twice to drive in four runs. BASEBALL

UW-Milwaukee overcame a two-run deficit early and nearly did it again late before falling, 5-4, to host Texas-Arlington. The Panthers (7-7) trailed, 3-1, before knotting the score, 3-3, in the fifth. They trailed again, 5-3, and had the tying run on base in the eighth inning but could get no closer than the final score.

Billy Quirke paced UWM with a 3-for-4 day.
