Thirsty Duck to land in Sussex

-

The Thirsty Duck, a restaurant and bar with mini bowling in Wauwatosa, is heading to Sussex to open its second location in May.

It will open at N64W23180 Main St., the current location of the Boneyard Pub & Grill. The pub will remain open through April 1, an employee said.

Work on the interior to convert it to mini bowling begins April 2, said Dan Zierath, owner of the Thirsty Duck and of the Wauwatosa Jackson’s Blue Ribbon Pub; his brother, Mark, owns the Jackson’s Blue Ribbon Pub downtown.

The new location has two levels, allowing the business to stay open to the public while also hosting private parties, Zierath said.

The downstairs will have its own bar as well as eight lanes for mini bowling; the upstairs will have 10 lanes. Each level is 9,500 square feet.

The menu at the Sussex Thirsty Duck will be identical to Wauwatosa’s, Zierath said. It’s a pub menu of appetizers such as wings and beer-battered cheese curds, soups and salads, pizzas, sandwiches and Friday fish fry. Prices for pizzas are $16 to $21, sandwiches run $10 to $12 and Friday fish entrées are $10 to $14.

Nancy Ruiz will be the chef at the Sussex location, which will be open daily: 3 p.m. until bar time Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. until bar time Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. until midnight Sunday; the kitchen will close at 10 p.m.

Because it’s close to the Quad/Graphics warehouse, the Thirsty Duck in Sussex later will begin opening at 7 a.m. to appeal to third-shift workers, Zierath said. That move wouldn’t come before the restaurant-bar has been open at least six months, he said.

The Thirsty Duck will have bowling and bags leagues, a shuttle to Brewers games and downtown concerts, Zierath said.

Starting next week, the venue’s online reservation site, reserveyourlane .com, will go live, he said.

Other vendors will include Iron Grate BBQ, Purple Door Ice Cream, Tapuat Kombucha, Golden Bear Farm, Just Coffee, That Salsa Lady, BelAir Cantina and Mooks Musings.

The museum is at 800 W. Wells St.; the market will be in the Garden Gallery, near the cafe.
