Madison 3rd best city for pets

Capital ranks high among happiest places for humans, too

If dogs had a say in where they lived, they might want to consider Madison, which was named the country’s third best city for pets by Trulia.

The real estate website ranked the country’s 100 biggest metro areas based on the percentage of land devoted to parks, the percentage of pet-friendly rentals and the number of pet amenities per household — things like climbing trees for cats and fire hydrants for dogs.

Denver was ranked the country’s best city for pets, and the metro area defined as “Lake/Kenosha Counties, IL-WI” was sixth.

Wisconsin’s capital is good for humans, too. The city was ranked the 15th happiest place to live and the fifth best state capital by WalletHub.

The happiness rankings were based on factors including depression rates, obesity rates, adequatesl­eep rates, income growth and volunteer rate. Madison had the country’s highest volunteer rate at 40.4%.

The capital rankings were determined by factors including affordable housing, household income, unemployme­nt rate and crime rates.
