UWM drops twin bill to Illinois-Chicago

It was a long, long day for the UW-Milwaukee baseball team.

Reid Birlingmai­r fired a two-hitter as Illinois-Chicago rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Panthers on Saturday for a sweep of the doublehead­er at Granderson Stadium.

Birlingmai­r held the Panthers hitless until Dylan Detert singled to lead off the ninth. After a double play, Chris Kelly reached on an infield single.

It was the 10thstraig­ht loss for the Panthers (7-16, 0-8 Horizon League).

Cody Bohanek homered as the Flames overpowere­d the Panthers, 11-4, in the opener. LACROSSE

Charlotte McGuire had four goals and four others recorded hat tricks as the Marquette women’s team routed Villanova, 20-6, at the Valley Fields Dome.

The prolific offensive attack was enough to tie a program record with 20 goals, previously set back on Feb. 28, in a 20-7 victory over Kennesaw State.

Julianna Shearer, Grace Gabriel, Amanda Bochniak and Allison Lane each recorded hat tricks for the Golden Eagles (4-7, 2-1 Big East).

Villanova 10, Marquette 9: Christian Cuccinello scored his fifth goal of the game with 1:31 remaining in overtime as the host Wildcats edged the Golden Eagles (5-3, 1-1 Big East). SOFTBALL

Kaylan Jablonski’s two-run double capped a five-run fifth and Nebraska (10-12, 2-3 Big Ten) stunned No. 21 Wisconsin (23-5, 2-3), 8-3, at Goodman Diamond in Madison.
