Spring plant sales

-

In addition to new plants available at garden centers and growers, gardeners also can get new or newer varieties of plants at area plant sales. Here are two sales.

The SouthEast Wisconsin Master Gardeners 22nd Annual Plant Sale will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 20 at the DNR area at State Fair Park, 640 S. 84th St., West Allis. Admission is free, but the fair does charge for parking.

Diane Thieme, plant sale co-chair, said the event is a fundraiser for the University of Wisconsin Extension SouthEast Wisconsin Master Gardeners Association and that about 15,000 perennials plants will be for sale. They include natives, shrubs, trees, grasses, bulbs and ground covers. All are Wisconsin-grown and hardy.

Prices for plants will range from $1 to $10, with most being in the $3 range, and trees and large shrubs will be $15 to $20. Cash and checks only.

At the event, there will be photos of each plant so gardeners can see plant colors and shapes and there will be more than 100 master gardener volunteers on hand to answer questions.

The Daylily Society of South Eastern Wisconsin annual plant sale will be from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 3 at the plaza next to the Brookfield Farmers Market, 2000 N. Calhoun Road, at the corner of Calhoun and Civic Drive, Brookfield. This sale features about 290 cultivars. Information will be given on how to use them in a landscape.
