Charges filed in earlier shooting involving Williams

- ASHLEY LUTHERN

A 27-year-old man was charged Friday in a driveby shooting involving a man who was killed one day later by a Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputy.

Daniel Nash of Cudahy is accused of using an assault-style rifle to shoot at a minivan from an Audi SUV driven by Terry Williams on June 10.

The next day, Williams, 19, and Paula McEwen, 23, were shot following a pursuit along Milwaukee’s lakefront that began after Williams failed to obey a traffic sign at the North Point parking lot near Bradford Beach along Milwaukee’s lakefront.

Williams died Tuesday and McEwen has since been released from the hospital.

According to the criminal complaint charging Nash:

A 38-year-old man drove his gray Oldsmobile minivan to JAD Foods, 5855 W. Silver Spring Drive, about 1:30 p.m. June 10.

He noticed a four-door “chameleon colored” SUV and the driver, whom he later identified as Williams, came over and discussed his music. The man later waved Williams off when he couldn’t hear what Williams was saying.

The man said Williams went to the SUV and appeared to reach for a weapon. The man was open-carrying a handgun in a holster and told Williams: “Don’t do it. I got one, too.”

The man saw a second person, whom he identified as Nash, get into the front passenger seat of the SUV.

The man drove away in his minivan. The man saw Williams driving behind him on Silver Spring Drive.

As he turned, he heard gunshots.

The man found officers near N. 60th St. and the officers said they had heard the shots. The man realized his minivan had been hit by gunfire.

Nash, who had an open misdemeanor case for obstruction, was arrested Tuesday and made his first appearance in court Friday on charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and disorderly conduct, both by use of a dangerous weapon. He also was charged with two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping.
