Wood-fired pizza now served at DiModa

-

DiModa Pizza & Hotspot has started serving Roman-style pizza made in a wood-fired oven (among other dishes) at 1758 N. Water St., the former Trocadero site.

Part of the Wild Planet Hospitality Group (McGillycuddy’s, Red Rock Saloon, Brass Tap), DiModa opened quietly last weekend, said co-owner Drew Deuster.

A small bar added to the updated dining room looks onto what’s now an open kitchen, said Deuster, and the covered patio has a new glass garage door.

Diners can choose their toppings for the 13-inch pizzas or pick one of nine pies, such as the Spicy Pep (Underground Meats ghost pepper pepperoni, caramelized cipollini onions, fresh mozzarella, pecorino and spicy tomato sauce, $15).

Main dishes include 12-layer lasagna ($15) and grilled pork chops with pickled peppers, garlic, caper and charred lemon ($18).

The restaurant serves sandwiches such as a burger with fried salami and smoked mozzarella ($13) and grilled chicken spiedini ($13); salads include a deconstructed Caesar with polenta crouton ($11).

An appetizer, sausagestuffed cherry peppers ($8), is one of the dishes aside from pizza made in the wood oven. Desserts include pignolata, the Sicilian fried pastries ($8).

On the weekend, brunch has plates such as eggs Benedict with heirloom tomato ($12) and limoncello French toast ($12).

DiModa has gluten-free and children’s menus, as well as a menu for pooches on the patio (such as mini Puparoni pizza with cheese or pepperoni, $5).

DiModa’s chef is Mark Grimes, who previously worked for Marcus Corp.

Kitchen hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The bar is open later.

DiModa takes reservations; to contact, (414) 331-0020. Carryout is expected to begin in a few months, Deuster said.

Iron Grate BBQ’s move

Get ready: Iron Grate BBQ Co.’s last day of service at its original location will be Sunday.

Iron Grate, 4177 S. Howell Ave., will move two doors up the street to 4125 S. Howell and reopen July 12 or thereabouts, chef-owner Aaron Patin said.

While the new restaurant is readied, the Iron Grate food truck will keep hours at the new location, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 7 to 9.

Patin said in May he would move Iron Grate from the Hawthorne Coffee Roasters building and expand hours and the menu.

A liquor license is expected a month or two after the restaurant opens, Patin said.

Yokohama lunch

Yokohama, the ramen restaurant that opened on the east side in May, added lunch hours this week and recently started takeout and delivery.

The restaurant is open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. At midday, Yokohama, at 1932 E. Kenilworth Place, serves Korean tacos ($3 apiece, $8 for three) and salad bowls (two sizes, $8 and $11) in addition to two kinds of ramen ($11 and $12).

Takeout orders for pickup can be called in at (414) 7636570 or ordered online, at ramenmemke.com; delivery is by GrubHub and UberEats.

Other hours of note: dinner is 3 to 10 p.m. daily; a late-night menu is served until 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday (midnight other days), and happy hour is 3 to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday.
