There’s a lot going on this weekend in Milwaukee besides Summerfest. No, really.

The 2017 USA Gymnastics Championsh­ips, which began Tuesday at the Wisconsin Center and the BMO Harris Bradley Center, continue through Sunday with competitio­ns in acrobatic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and trampoline and tumbling, in junior Olympic and elite classes.An all-session pass, at $95, gets you into all of the events at the Wisconsin Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., and the Bradley Center, 1001 N. 4th St. A single-day pass, which gives you access to competitio­n at the convention center and the afternoon competitio­n at the Bradley Center, costs $35.

Tickets for the evening competitio­n at the Bradley Center are $35 for Friday night, and $40 for Saturday night. All tickets are available at the venue box offices and at Ticketmast­er.

The Fourth of July is Tuesday, but a number of Milwaukee-area communitie­s get started early by throwing parties of their own. Among them:

Hartland holds its Hometown Celebratio­n in Nixon Park, 175 E. Park Ave., Friday through Sunday. Info:

The Franklin Civic

Celebratio­n in Lions Legend Park, 9229 W. Loomis Road, begins Saturday and runs through the Fourth, with a music stage, helicopter rides and more. Info: franklinwi.gov.

New Berlin’s 4th of July Family Festival

runs Sunday through Tuesday in Malone Park, 16400 W. Al Stigler Parkway, with music, food and games. Info: newberlin.org.

Grillin’ in Grafton, a free family event, runs Friday and Saturday in Centennnia­l Park, 1370 17th Ave. Among the highlights is the KCBS barbecue competitio­n. Info: celebrateg­rafton.org.

A handful of communitie­s have their Independen­ce Day fireworks this weekend, including Grafton in Centennial Park on Saturday; Oconomowoc over Fowler Lake, Saturday; and Delafield, over Nagawicka Lake on Sunday.
