Fatal shooting took place near ice cream stand

A Milwaukee man has been charged with firstdegree homicide in connection with a shooting death near an ice cream shop on the city’s north side, according to a criminal complaint.

Otha Brown Jr., 32, could face life in prison for a fatal shooting at Tastee Twist at Teutonia and Meinecke avenues earlier this month.

According to the criminal complaint: Police responded to a shooting at 2378 N. Teutonia Ave. around noon Aug. 4. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy showed that the victim had two gunshot wounds to his chest and several to his upper and lower extremities.

Police obtained video surveillance from cameras at nearby businesses. The footage showed a car pulling into a parking lot near the shooting and two men leaving together.

A witness told police that she was looking out a window at a nearby business when she saw a passenger in a maroon car tying a mask around his face. She said she was afraid of a robbery and took down six of the seven numbers on the license plate before the car drove away. She said she heard gunshots moments later.

Brown was arrested Aug. 4 driving the maroon car the witness described. Brown told detectives that he was driving the car with two other men. One of the men saw the victim and said he thought he was the person who shot and killed one of his friends. The passenger told Brown that he was going to kill the victim, and Brown pulled the car over so his passenger could put on a mask.

Brown drove to the ice cream stand and got out of the car with the passenger. The passenger shot the victim multiple times and the two men ran away.
