Latin music continues in area with 6 concerts
Los Temerarios, J. Balvin among acts
Miss the Los Dells Latin music festival in Mauston or Fiesta De La Raza at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena over Labor Day weekend? The good news is Milwaukee venues have been booking more Spanish-language shows. Here are six more coming this year. 1. Los Huracanes del Norte: One of the most established Norteno bands, Los Huracanes has been around for 45 years and released more than 50 albums. 8 p.m. Sept. 16, Eagles Ballroom, the Rave, 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave. $42.50 to $127.50 at the box office, (414) 342-7283 and
2. Pepe Aguilar: For its first Spanish-language concert early last year, PTG Live Events (which operates the Riverside Theater, Pabst Theater, Turner Hall Ballroom and Back Room at Colectivo Coffee) booked ranchera and mariachi-flavored pop singer-songwriter Pepe Aguilar. The show sold out, and Aguilar’s appearance at the Riverside this month will be his third at the theater. 9 p.m. Sept. 22, Riverside Theater, 116 W. Wisconsin Ave. $55 to $125 at the box office, the Pabst Theater box office, (414) 286-3663 and
3. J. Balvin: “Despacito” has been unstoppable this summer, but another reggaeton pop jam, J. Balvin’s “Mi Gente,” managed to knock it from the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s most-streamed songs chart. With Justin Bieber and Pharrell Williams among his fans and collaborators, he’s well-positioned to be one of Latin music’s next big crossover stars. 9 p.m. Sept. 23, Riverside Theater. $45 to $90.
4. Los Temerarios: Incorporating keyboards and glossy pop production to ranchera, the brothers Alba broke out in the ‘90s, an even more impressive feat stateside with its albums for a time released on its own label. 8 p.m. Oct. 13, Eagles Ballroom, the Rave. $37.50 to $127.50.
5. Jarabe Mexicano: With members based in San Diego and Tijuana, Jarabe Mexicano puts a mariachi spin on “Get Up, Stand Up,” “Twist and Shout” and other universally known songs. 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3, Latino Arts Auditorium, 1028 S. 9th St. $10 to $30 at the door and
