Vikings rule out Bradford this week

-

The Minnesota Vikings face another quarterback quandary, with Sam Bradford sidelined against Tampa Bay because of an ailing left knee and Case

Keenum set for his second straight start. Vikings coach Mike

Zimmer eliminated the mystery before the weekend this time. He ruled out Bradford, who was not at practice Friday because of his injury from the season opener against New Orleans.

Bradford joined the team on the field in a limited basis Wednesday and again on Thursday, when Zimmer sounded upbeat about his progress. ESPN, citing unidentified sources, reported that Bradford was traveling to seek a second opinion from orthopedic surgeon James Andrews.

Zimmer declined to discuss the report. He even said Bradford saw more action Thursday than Wednesday.

“He could be back the following week. I don’t know. … But I tell you I don’t have a crystal ball,” he said. Elliott can play at least two more games:

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott won’t be suspended at least through the next two games as the appeals court scheduled an Oct. 2 hearing in the case Friday.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ordered lawyers for the NFL and those who represent Elliott from the players association to have their filings in by Sept. 27. Meanwhile, the injunction Elliott secured earlier this month in U.S. District Court remains in effect and the NFL is prevented from enforcing his six-game suspension over domestic violence allegations.

“As of right now, the preliminary injunction is intact and he is clear to play,” NFL executive vice president of communications Joe Lockhart said Friday in a conference call. “I’m not privy to the schedule of the Court of Appeals. If they were to say something sometime between now and Sunday, we will announce any decision that that might trigger.”

If 5th Circuit rules in favor of the NFL and reinstates Elliott’s suspension, the league holds the discretion to initiate the ban whenever it chooses. Murray back at practice: Tennessee Pro Bowl

running back DeMarco

Murray returned to practice, but his status for Sunday against Seattle remains undecided because of a hamstring injury.

Murray was listed as questionable after being limited Friday. He had missed two straight practices with the injury.

The running back, who led the AFC in rushing last season, has been off to a slow start this season with just 69 yards rushing in two games.

He gave way in the second half to Derrick Henry, who had 92 yards and a touchdown in a 37-16 victory at Jacksonville. No. 1 pick Garrett closer to debut: Cleveland Browns rookie defensive

end Myles Garrett might be close to making his NFL debut.

The top pick in this year’s draft has missed Cleveland’s first two games because of a high right-ankle sprain. Coach

Hue Jackson has not yet ruled him out of Sunday’s game at Indianapolis.

Garrett made significant progress this week after hurting his ankle in practice Sept. 6.
