Lauterbach leads No. 1 Arrowhead back to state

Arrowhead will defend its crown.

The state’s top-ranked girls golf team and defending Division 1 state champion cruised to victory at the Fond du Lac Sectional on Tuesday at Rolling Meadows. The Warhawks finished with a fourplayer score of 309, 32 strokes better than second-place Kaukauna.

Arrowhead's top four players finished no worse than seventh.

Junior Emily Lauterbach, last year’s state medalist, tied Homestead senior Speedy Kent for the low round of the day with a 3-over 75.

Arrowhead senior Gianna Gastrow finished one stroke back, while seniors Sarah Ernst (78) and Skyler Phillips (80) finished fifth and tied for seventh, respective­ly.

The top two teams and top three individual­s who were not members of a qualifying team advance to the state meet, which will be held Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. Mukwonago Sectional: Kettle Moraine senior Abby Cavaiani shot a 2-under 70 at Edgewood to win by seven strokes and lead the Lasers to a second-place finish, one stroke behind the state’s second-ranked team, Milton.

Area players claimed two of the individual qualifier spots: Badger sophomore Holly Murphy, who tied for third with a 79, and Waterford junior Aubrie Torhost, who tied for sixth.

DIVISION 2 Catholic Memorial Sectional: The host Crusaders edged Fox Valley Lutheran, 354-357, and return to state for the first time since 2008.

Senior Sydney Brandt took third with a 10-over 82 and freshman Ashley Stanislaws­ki was fourth with an 84.

Among the individual qualifiers were Racine Prairie senior Kate Munro and St. Thomas More junior Katie Gerichke.
