PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSE Isiah Wright, Milwaukee Bay View: The senior cracked 200 yards rushing for the fourth time this season when he ran for a career-high 341 yards and six touchdowns in 23 carries in a 55-20 victory over Milwaukee Marshall in the City Conference championship game at South Stadium. Two of his touchdowns came on runs of 79 and 84 yards. The performance raised his season total to 1,711 yards in 153 carries, an 11.2-yard average, and put him on the cusp of 5,000 career rushing yards. He is 93 yards away. Honorable mention Canon Melstrand, West Bend West: The senior quarterback scored on runs of 50 and 97 yards and finished with 291 yards in 27 carries in a 21-14 victory over rival West Bend East. He finished with 363 yards of total offense to help his team win its second game of the season. Glenn Martin, West Allis Central: The junior running back helped the Bulldogs snap a five-game skid by running for 236 yards and four touchdowns in 25 carries in a 32-21 victory over Cudahy. DEFENSE Kyle Weinkauf, Greendale: The 6-2, 208-pound senior free safety led the Panthers to a 42-6 victory over Milwaukee Lutheran in which they shut down a Lutheran attack that had scored at least 40 points in its last six games. He finished with 12 tackles and an interception to help hold the Red Knights to 208 yards of total offense. Weinkauf also plays running back and ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns in 18 carries. Honorable mention Jamontte Brown, Pius XI: The 6-1, 190-pound junior linebacker finished with 10 tackles and returned a fumble he forced 82 yards for a touchdown in a 40-14 victory over Brown Deer. He also caught five passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns from his spot at tight end. Eli Rivera, Shorewood/ Messmer: The senior defensive lineman finished with 10 tackles, five solo, with four tackles for a loss, one sack and three forced fumbles in a 28-22 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran.
SPECIAL TEAMS Tyler Tenner, Racine Lutheran: The 5-9, 171-pound running back returned first-quarter punts 59 and 40 yards for touchdowns in the Crusaders’ 70-0 victory over St. Thomas More. He also ran six times for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Honorable mention Jordan Jesse, Wilmot: The 6-0 senior defensive lineman helped set the tone for a 47-13 victory over Westosha Central by blocking a punt in the first quarter for a touchdown that after the extra point gave his team a 14-0 lead.
TEAMS OF THE WEEK
Nicolet: The Knights snapped a 41-game conference losing streak and a 16-game overall losing streak with a 21-14 victory at Cedarburg. That string included seven forfeits in 2014 when the school canceled its season. The Knights tied the game, 14-14, on a 19-yard touchdown run by junior running back CJ Kobe in the second quarter and got the gamewinning score from sophomore quarterback Carson Trimborn in the fourth quarter, a 10-yard run set up by Jay Singh's fumble recovery on a punt. Trimborn, the 5-10, 160-pounder, finished with 120 yards in 17 carries. Senior defensive back Jaren Yoder (11.5) and senior linebacker Andrew Eidenberger (nine) led Nicolet in tackles. Kobe's interception sealed the game. Homestead: The area’s longest conference championship streak remained alive thanks not only to Hartford’s upset of Whitefish Bay but also a Highlanders’ comeback victory. Homestead rallied from a 14-6 halftime deficit to defeat Slinger, 17-14, on the road, a victory that gave the team a share of its 17th straight North Shore Conference title. Sophomore Charlie Sileno’s 22-yard field goal in the third quarter trimmed Homestead's deficit to five points. It went ahead in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run by junior quarterback Jack Riebau and got its final margin of victory on a two-point conversion by senior running back Corey DeToro.
