Whitewater holds off Plattevill­e in 17-16 victory

UW-Whitewater scored all of its points in the third quarter and then held off a comeback attempt by UW-Plattevill­e to win, 17-16, on Saturday in Whitewater and assume sole-possession of second place in the WIAC.

After a scoreless first half, Drew Patterson got the Warhawks (6-3, 5-1 conference) on the scoreboard on the third play from scrimmage in the second half with a 64-yard run.

A 5-yard touchdown catch by Tony Gumina and a 25-yard field goal Wojciech Gasienica put Whitewater comfortabl­y out front, 17-0.

The Pioneers (6-3, 3-3) fought back thanks to Mark Johnson’s 41-yard touchdown reception, a 1-yard scoring run by Bo Babich and a safety.

St. Norbert 47, Beloit 7: The Green Knights (7-2, 5-0) clinched a berth in the Midwest Conference championsh­ip game by bombarding the Buccaneers (0-9, 0-5) in De Pere.

Jack Becker completed just four passes for St. Norbert, but three of them went to Samuel Staehling for 184 yards and three scores. Ripon 14, Lawrence 7: Julian Patton threw a touchdown pass and rushed for another in leading the Red Hawks (4-5, 3-2 Midwest) past the Vikings (2-7, 1-4) in Appleton. Aurora 36, Concordia 14: Jordan Edwards rushed for 102 yards and a score for the Falcons (2-7, 1-5) during their loss to the Spartans (5-4, 4-1) in Mequon.

North Central 43, Carthage 20: Austin Breunig had 350 yards of total offense and found the end zone five times for the Cardinals (8-1, 6-1 CCIW), who cruised past the Red Men (6-3, 4-3) in Naperville, Ill. North Park 37, Carroll 6: Colton Bahling scored the lone touchdown for the Pioneers (1-8, 1-6) in their loss.
