Whitewater holds off Platteville in 17-16 victory

UW-Whitewater scored all of its points in the third quarter and then held off a comeback attempt by UW-Platteville to win, 17-16, on Saturday in Whitewater and assume sole-possession of second place in the WIAC.

After a scoreless first half, Drew Patterson got the Warhawks (6-3, 5-1 conference) on the scoreboard on the third play from scrimmage in the second half with a 64-yard run.

A 5-yard touchdown catch by Tony Gumina and a 25-yard field goal Wojciech Gasienica put Whitewater comfortably out front, 17-0.

The Pioneers (6-3, 3-3) fought back thanks to Mark Johnson’s 41-yard touchdown reception, a 1-yard scoring run by Bo Babich and a safety.
